BandCamp Portland 2009
When: TBA, probably summer ('cause that's when band camp is).
Where: I'm thinking Audiocinema but open to ideas - maybe approach colleges with music schools?
What: An event discussing the future of music, the "music industry," innovations in expression, and of course providing lots of opportunities for hands-on, jam sessions, and sight reading.
Tracks:
Electronic & Digital interfaces - The E-wi, theramins, waveforms for fun and profit, and digital recording
Orchestration boot camp - we start with something like "Scarborough Fair" and make it awesome with the voices and instruments available
Gaming - Rock Band, GHWT, etc. Why they're awesome and/or evil.
Hacks - DIY instrument building, mods, etc.
Keynotes/People we want there:
Niel DePonte - OBT Music Director and Conductor
Robert Fripp - yo Kram hook us the hizzup!
Keith Terry - founder of the first Int'l Body Music Festival
Organizers:
J-P Voillequé (@lawduck)
Sponsors:
People with money
Music stores
Indie producers (more on the time/talent/teaching level)
Small Fee or No?
Cyborgcamp's $10 had the benefit of covering catering and providing some juice for pins and whatnot. But I'm open to having this event be free, or better still, having any sort of door charge be donated to public school music programs or something.
